Modern Jive is easy to learn and footwork is simple. No experience is necessary as all moves can be done in any order.
Modern jive is a dance style developed in the UK during the 1980s based on a style of jive that evolved in France after World War II when American dances such as the Jitterbug were popular. It is derived from West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Rock & Roll, Salsa and various other dance styles. The main difference between it and the faster Ballroom Jive of the 1930s & 40s is the simplification of footwork by removing syncopation such as chassé.
Modern jive can be danced to a wide variety of tempos and music, and moves can be danced in any order depending on which handhold or other connection the lead is using.
Note: Ceroc is a franchise that teaches modern jive, which is so successful that the name has become synonymous with the type of dance - in much the same way as people say they are doing the hoovering while pushing around a Dyson vacuum cleaner!
Highland Charity Jive is an informal group run entirely by volunteers. No one gets paid and everyone pays the same entrance fee. We are not a charity, our group name derives from the fact that all our profits are gifted to local charities.
Highland Charity Jive was formed in 2017 (after Ceroc pulled out of Inverness) in order to provide a venue in Inverness for people to learn and dance modern jive.
